He’s got a ton of ties for recruiting and he has NFL experience. He hasn’t done much yet but Michigan State didn’t have many options, he probably jumped to get back into that conference. He played at Wisconsin and has coached at LSU/Georgia and the NFL.

Yeah, he's a solid get for a team in a desperate situation. There was a real chance they might have had to go with an interim coach all year if they didn't figure it out quickly.

His recruiting class was fantastic for a moribund program that hasn't been able to get out of its own way for most of the last two decades.

I don't think much of his on field/gameday work, but it was certainly better than the last 4+ guys we've cycled through.

Yep, Well said. I liked Mel for that reason as well. Yea he didn't do great but he only had one year. Plus he had a good coaching resume. I thought CU screwed up when they fired MacIntyre a little too early. But now we need a HC and idk who we will go after.

The only thing I console myself with is that it won't be worse than Embree. And Cody Hawkins won't be our QB.

Colorado feels like a sleeping giant in CFB. They could easily be what Utah has become with a decent coach who wants to stay there and doesn't rely on convincing kids with hookers and blow like Neuheisel.

Somehow Helton is going to have the highest odds two years in a row and probably still keep his job.

Plus they play in the Big 12 Nor...er I mean the Pac 12 South, it shouldn't be that hard to dominate.

It's a winning season if they can get to a bowl. They're not dominating anyone.

Colorado was an amazing program for a while, even though theyve gone south I’m surprised they still haven’t been able to recruit.

It was more a joke about how the Pac 12 South is possibly the worst division in all of P5 football, much like the Big 12 North was. Colorado has the fortune of playing in both.

Every guy we've brought in has systematically ignored in-state players, and then tried to go recruit in TX against TX and OU or FL against the SEC. So they constantly end up with 3rd tier guys, most of whom play like it. They do get some solid stars, but then guys like Dan Hawkins squander it by being terrible coaches.

It's like we can't get out of our own way. Great WRs and a 4 year starter at QB this year, and Tucker couldn't figure out how to consistently get the ball out. And then Shenault got hurt and we really couldn't figure anything out.

I dunno. I expect every year to start great, then we play USC and get stomped, then we blow the rest of the season trying to over-correct as a result. It sucks.

Karl Dorrell. Well. That's something.

So much for recruiting?

Yeah, that feels very underwhelming.

He'll probably be fired in two years but at least then they can hire someone else underwhelming during the normal coaching carousel time period...

https://theathletic.com/1644359/2020...juries-fights/

The full list of recommended rule changes:
Quote:
  • Implementing a two-minute time limit for officials to make decisions using instant replay (to speed up the game)
  • Allowing players ejected for targeting and disqualified from the game to remain on the sidelines with their teammates (instead of being immediately banished to the locker room, alone)
  • Starting game officials’ jurisdiction at 90 minutes before kickoff, instead of the current 60 minutes. That will come with a requirement that a coach has to be on the field during pregame warmups whenever players are present (to avoid pregame kerfuffles)
  • Capping the amount of duplicate jersey numbers on a roster at two to lessen confusion for referees and others
  • Because of that restriction as well as the popularity of single-digit jersey numbers, adding No. 0 as a legal jersey number

I don't trust that they're going to abide by that 2 minute replay limit, but it would be awesome if they did.

If you're going to have replay, take what time you need to get the call right.

That said, if it's taking you two minutes to decide, it's probably not indisputable and the call on the field should stand.
