I’ll advise when it’s time to gear up, mount up, and roll out. Wow!

Texas shares a border with Louisiana. Too close for comfort. Fuck em all.

Texas, and Austin already, is slowing becoming blue. All those California immigrants are certainly helping to speed things along.

If anything, Texas is probably the best state in America for young Americans right now in terms of job opportunities and standard of living.

Brb, moving to Houston.

My opinion is mostly based on asset prices/housing costs. Keeping yearly rent/mortgage expenses below 30/40% of your total yearly income.

LA/NY/Miami/SF for example are completely unlivable unless you have a balling tech or finance job.

i can confirm that the no state income tax, and free gas is heavenly. also, my employer is matching 9.5% for my "retirement".

there seem to be more genuinely nicer people here than in atlanta.

Oh yeah, the no income tax thing is huge. Also lots of pretty good schools in the UT system as well as Rice.

Texas is doing things right, hopefully they can remove Cruz soon enough.

don't you live in New Jersey? yikes.

Austin's job market is pretty weak, and they are not a diverse city.
Houston is really diverse and has an elite food scene. But their humidity is just fucking god-awful.
Dallas is a solid blue city we are just surrounded by red as fuck suburbs.
San Antonio is another blue city, but I don't honestly know what's there besides hospitals and UT-SA.
I hear El Paso isn't bad, but you might as well live in New Mexico at that point.

That is interesting to hear. I am always hearing how many start-ups are there and what not.

I am from Miami so humidity doesn't bother me at all.

I am in an interview process for a job in Houston so good to know that besides the humidity it seems pretty cool. Probably would take the job in a heart beat if they let me.

my understanding with Austin is that it's a lot of small companies. if that is what you are looking for, then it's probably fine. all the guys I know that are programmers/developers/etc live there. the big problem is a lack of infrastructure and everything is getting gentrified. so you have density without the supporting infrastructure and the high demand of residential makes everything overpriced. and of course, very white.

to speak on Dallas, many people conflate our suburbs with the city itself. the city is awesome and I recommend it to everyone, but our suburbs are only good for raising kids because they have good schools. we bought a house in east Dallas and it's awesome living over here. I wouldn't leave it for any where else in the area.

I think, ironically, if you like LA, you will like Houston. Lots of cool shit, but everything is spread out, there's no public transit, and you really need to know where to go or you can wind up having a shitty time. Obviously the weather is shit and awful flooding is just a yearly thing at this point, but that kind of is what it is.

Austin is also just as expensive as Miami fwiw. If you want low COL, Austin ain't it. Also, unless you work in tech, the Austin job market is decidedly average, especially considering the aforementioned COL.

I'm personally of the opinion that moving anywhere that gets frequent hurricanes is a bad idea.

I was very close to moving to Houston and it was definitely a negative factor for me. Especially since I knew I wanted to buy rather than rent.

The key with Houston is to just make sure your house wasn't built in a 100-Year-Flood zone.

Houston has basically no zoning laws, so it's a shitshow.

Donald Trump telling Sarah Sanders to 'take one for the team' after Kim Jong Un winked at her is pretty funny. She is an awful person and deserves every shitty thing life throws her way.
