of course, but I don't think someone who was responsible for US involvement in the Saudi War on Yemen has any place in our government. Everyone should be critical of the Biden administration, especially his supporters, and the new admin's personnel choices. For all the love that Elizabeth Warren got from liberals, few seem to remember her statement about "personnel is policy."

An example of her disqualifying history:

In 2011, two years before Power’s tenure as Ambassador to the UN began, Yemenis protested against long-time dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh who eventually resigned and transferred power to his then-vice president (and now president) Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi. By the time Power took office in August 2013, U.S. policy in Yemen was defined by drone warfare, while Yemenis awaited an election following Hadi’s two-year term. Then in late 2014, the Houthi rebel group marched to the capital Sana’a, in what many saw as a coup, thereby threatening Saudi Arabia’s interests in Yemen. Months later, a coalition consisting of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other neighboring countries launched a surprise attack on Yemen, ostensibly aimed at restoring Hadi to power.

Ambassador Power supported this intervention.

Her support did not waver when evidence surfaced that the Saudis and Emiratis were fighting alongside members of al-Qaeda. By the end of her tenure, at least 10,000 Yemenis were dead and at least 80% of the population was in need of humanitarian aid. Despite this, there were no public statements made by Power at the time indicating waning support for the disastrous U.S. intervention in Yemen.

You can easily Google her thoughts and read about how America should intervene in other countries, as well as how under her UN Ambassador tenure the Saudis (as mentioned above) committed crimes against humanity on Yemenis, which she felt no need to say anything about.

Brent, what do you think the US should've done with regards to Yemen? This isn't a gotcha, or whatever, I'm just curious what you think the right move there was, or if you think nothing/non-intervention was the right move.

I don't believe the US should intervene militarily in any country, barring something akin to genocide or the like. We have, for too long, been allies of the Saudis for the sake of oil and now investment interests. This alliance with the Saudis is not a beneficial relationship to anyone but American oligarchs.

The US has chosen to supply the Saudis with military goods, intelligence and weapons, which have in turn been used to commit war crimes against the Yemeni people. If we were really concerned about the safety of Yemeni people, rather than just giving the Saudis whatever they want, we wouldn't be participating in any way beyond working with other UN nations to find a diplomatic solution to the Yemeni Civil War.

During this conflict, we have seen time and time again how the Saudis indiscriminately use the weapons we provide to wage war on Yemeni civilians. Additionally, the UN determined that the Saudis have been purposefully obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid into Yemen. The UN also found that the US has been "complicit in war crimes in Yemen by arming and providing support to a Saudi-led coalition that starves civilians as a war tactic."

The Saudis wish to wipe Yemen off the map, and the US has done nothing but help them out with supplies and drone strikes. Our participation began under the Obama administration, and has continues under the Trump administration. Our nation should be ashamed of our participation.

EDIT: also, completely disqualifying that she is friends with/mentored by Henry Kissinger.

We had 2 republicans here in Washington state who voted to impeach. They’re not from heavy liberal districts (I-5 corridor) so it was impressive to me.
