Rice is a monster on the outside. The way he attacks the ball, and defenders, is seriously impressive. He reminds me a lot of AJB. Plus he reportedly ran a sub 4.4 forty at SMU. JSN is more of a big bodied slot guy who gets by on route running and savy.
JSN feels pro ready whereas Rice has a limited route tree but you can argue that’s more his system than him. Both guys feel like they have the potential to be a QBs best friend whereas Zay feels more like a guy who you scheme plays for.

OSU I was going to say something similar tbh with AJB but I felt that there was some bias with level of competition--I don't think he's that tier of athlete though. I am weary because he isn't separating against inferior competition.
Honestly, with the track record of OSU WR's I'm ready to say fuck it and blindly pick the next one lol. I see JSN as an Keenan Allen type player, but the lack of film creates a ton of ambiguity in his eval. Allen had some injury concerns funny enough predraft and went in the third. I think JSN has a pretty wide range of outcomes between middle of first to middle of 2nd. Last edited by BaLLiN; 01-25-2023 at 06:57 PM. |

If JSN falls to mid-2nd I’d gladly trade up for him. Getting a CB like Witherspoon end of round 1 then trading up for JSN would be a dream. Like you said, Hartline has done wonders for that WR room and they all produce at the next level.
I think Rice might surprise some people with his testing at the combine. Like I said, the way he attacks the ball is crazy and he reportedly ran a sub 4.4. Even on tape he shows some crazy burst for breakaway plays. I think his separation, or lack there of, might be more of a route running issue than a speed issue, which thankfully can be coached up way more than speed can. He might not be at the same level athletically as AJB but I still think it’s a fair comp in the way that they both play bigger than they really are and attack the ball/defenders.

Digging into the draft prospects here and just let me say this, the Tight End class is absolutely loaded.

People are overreacting to Rice, he's still a day two guy but what hes getting killed on is the ability to separate. That has been there plainly on film. The first round talk was aspirational if he came out here and ran fast, measured tall. Think what is big about his game is strength, ball skills, body control and is a guy that even if he is covered, he isn't. I am not sure that fits with Jones though who just isn't going to throw a ton of contested balls.
Watching the few interior OL at the senior bowl, came away impressed with a few of these interior OL. I would not mind spending more attention to the lines early. Few DBs I am interested in, but their play might have been elevated due to poor QB/WR personnel tbh. |

I wanna keep Love, but would take Harmon with him or as a replacement.
Wouldn't hate Cameron Sutton (Dean seems unlikely as a CB signing). Rock Ya-Sin wouldn't be another bad option there, too Tremaine Edmunds would be SO fun |

I wouldn’t mind a splurge on a corner, or even bringing in Peters for two years to be the #2

Personnel on defense is going to be fairly dependent upon if we retain Wink IMO. I know we have made some investments in corner and DB in the draft, it certainly seems like there are a bunch in this draft to be interested in and we only have two DBs on contract in 2025.
Defensive personnel would seem to be fairly dependent upon Wink staying or leaving IMO. There are 5 DBs currently signed to the roster in 2024: Cordale Flott, Aaron Robinson, Dane Belton, Jason Pinnock, Rodarius Williams. Usually 1/4 to 1/3rd of a roster turns over from year to year and I'd expect that or more turnover in the next 2 years with Schoen relying upon cheap vets on short contracts currently. I would really want 2 DBs in this draft, but even moreso if Wink is still here with how much he relies upon them. |

I was eyeing Peters as well. Never liked his personality but seamless fit for an immediate upgrade until we develop some of these young guys like Flott, Holmes, draft pick, etc.

CB Marcus Peters - Two years, $14 million ($7M per year)
C Ethan Pocic Three years, $21 million ($7M per year) DL Matt Ioannidis - Two years, $13 million ($6.5M per year) I went the cheaper route. I really don't like spending big in free agency but I'm cool with mid-tier vets for the pressing needs. Peters plugs right in as the starter opposite Adoree (who I think we extend to free up some cap dollars). Pocic is an immediate upgrade at center that fits multiple blocking schemes. A smart player who can help make the correct reads. He's also position versatile, he's played all 5 positions on the line. Ioannidis fits right in as the 5 tech next to Dex and Leo. He helps beef up the DL against the run and gets pressure. |
