I'd gladly take Good Time, Mandy, First Man, If Beale Street Could Talk, Under the Skin, Brokeback Mountain, Annihilation, Social Network, Lord of the Rings trilogy, It Follows, and Assassination of Jesse James pretty easily over it. Probably a bunch of others I'm forgetting.

Figured I'd toss mine out there. Still a bunch I haven't seen but I could go all this year still needing to see some 2022 movies so might as well just post something now. Appreciate everyone who posted lists, helped me hone in on some movies to watch this past week. I thought it was a really strong year for film overall. As usual I'm way behind on foreign films and docs but I really enjoyed all 15 of these.

I think Men sucks but everything else there is fine (though I mostly just enjoy EEAOO rather than adore it or anything).

Also this piece absolutely smokes anything in Tron 2

THe OG version from Requiem for a Dream was dope as was that whole score.

Except numbers are weird and we discovered zero too late that technically it is the 20th century.

Possibly an out of left field pick, but I thought they did an amazing job with the score/music of Scott Pilgrim Vs. World. Granted it was silly and 'juvenile' was it channeling that 8 bit nostalgia which I think it did in spades.

Other than that, I can't really say much has been that memorable of late.

Wolfgang Peterson deserves more credit. Most of his filmography isn't transcendent, but his hits were so good.

I am definitely biased but Neverending story is up there with the best YA/kiddish movies 0f all time.

Then you throw in Das Boot. Easily one of the best war movies of all time.

I was deployed to Iraq with my friend Kenny was bemoaning sugarcoated happy endings. Instantly I had my answer: 'Das Boot.'

He watched. He said 'screw you, but damn great recommendation.'

The rule of war movies: the best are the bad guys being need so bad, the good guys not so good or a combination of both.
