Johan falling off the ballot makes no sense. 50 WAR and rarely had an ERA or IP over 3 or under ~220. I think writers only remember the half-year after the 134 pitch no-hitter that absolutely ruined him.

A very high percentage of pitchers that are already in the Hall of Fame were either never the best pitcher in baseball or were for a shorter term than Johan Santana.

The Royals are really fucking terrible at trades. The Red Sox are a bit better. So I get to bitch about the Royals front office (which I love to do - incredible dopamine) while being hyped about Mondesi in Boston (likewise).

There are 76 starting pitchers in the Hall of Fame and only 18 started their careers after MLB first expanded in 1961, so that’s 58 Hall of Fame starters before expansion and 18 in the 62 years since expansion. It doesn’t add up. Not with how many teams and players are in the game today. Modern starting pitchers are held to too high a standard in my opinion. If you’re a small Hall of Fame person, that’s cool. I’m just saying I believe the standard is unfair and we need to better contextualize players in their era.

Had no idea it was that few. Not sure why voters holding SP to a higher standard. It would be an even larger gap if they let the steroids bats in as there are multiple guys left out there and only Clemens as a SP.

yeah they could have dropped that with the ending of infield shifting, if the intent was to have more scoring

The intent is to speed the game up. Regarding the runner on 2nd no one wants extra innings games besides some fans. Players, coaches, front office, media doesn't want to be there for 10 hours a day. I think they should have just started it in the 12th or so but what can you do.

I don't really care about the runner on second thing. I'd have been in on just having draws after the 12th or just give the win to the team with the higher aggregate score in the series they're playing. Regular season games don't need extra innings.

Draws would have been fine, can't say I have ever stuck around for extra innings barring the game being of actual importance
