well shit, you guys. I don't write cover letters for education jobs, but I have been for private sector jobs I've applied to.

I figured it was a good place to state why my previous work is being a teacher and not anything else; also, to try and explain how my skills translate.

I've become so disillusioned by the job search process that anytime I'm asked to do anything other than give my resume and do a max of two interviews my fight or flight instincts kick in.

By all means though if you don't mind doing them then do them, I'm sure some employers still want them.

While I still don't think they are needed, I think Brent your situation is one of the only that it makes sense. A significant change in profession definitely will raise some questions and explaining it up front might actually prevent your resume from being tossed right away in some cases.

that's what I figured. I mean, I wrote a cover letter for all five jobs that I applied to today specifically for the reasons you outlined. and yes, I am looking for a job while at my current job.

Yes and no. I think people understand it sucks, but people also think teachers complain about their job disproportionately compared to other professions. I think most people's jobs suck and no one wants to hear about it.

oh well teachers on social media are the absolute worst. Between them and batshit crazy Trumpers, it's why I only use twitter and post a picture of my dog on instagram like twice a year.

It's really 1a and 1b. But I think I'd give to teachers. I also know more teachers though and my one good friend who is a nurse never complains, so small sample.

anytime I am exposed to some tiktok teacher video (or really any teacher social media) I assume those are not serious people. or they are trying to parlay the job into being an influencer or some such bullshit.

this is one of the worst professions to make a part of your identity. just asking to be forever a victim.

Teaching is really important and I respect the people that do it sincerely. It just isn’t suited to my personality because I just straight up hate talking for long periods of time and being around groups of people for long stretches in any capacity. I could never handle parents either. It just isn’t in me.

My problem with teaching is I don't know how to relate to children. I talk to them all like small adults and it just doesn't work very well.

oh yeah, I couldn't teach anyone younger than high school, and even then I teach mostly to juniors.

elementary teachers are the real heroes. has to be one of the hardest teaching jobs.

Yeah lady’s cousin is an elementary teacher in a penurious area; she said she gets cussed out by a kid at least every other day and has little autonomy for punishment and she’s at the all out depression stage and hasn’t had a lot of luck in more desirable areas in this part of the state.

I grew up in an area where a lot of people saw success as becoming a teacher or a nurse, therefore i have a TON of teacher/nurse friends.

They could fight each other to the death in this category. It's the Kong v Godzilla of this universe.

Both will never shut up about how their job is long and thankless, both think they're overqualified and underpaid, and both apparently have a lot of fucking time on their hands to be on social media.

Nurses and teachers definitely complain way more than any other profession, and they knew exactly what they were getting into when they went to school specifically to enter those professions.
