I actually really like the roster, but the coaching situation seems like absolute chaos.

Maybe Bill has been hanging out with Brad too much because it seems like they're doing positionless coaching on offense. Maybe it works. Players do so much of their own positional work in the off-season these days.

I sort of see it as a BB retirement contingency plan, the fact that it is Judge and especially Patricia scares me. Both were lacking severely in the offensive side of HC duties in their previous stops. This year is to try to see if either can function on the offensive side of the ball. I would assume that BB will morph into some executive role, so Steve will take care of everything defensive as he seems to have little ambition otherwise. Mayo will get a HC opportunity elsewhere.

So as I see it, the not so distant future is the following:

BB: Some sort of executive role

HC: Judge/Patricia, whoever can show some aptitude for the offence. I have zero hope for Patricia, Judge isn't as much of a doomsday scenario.

DC: Steve B forever. Our version of Dick Lebeau.

If this comes to fruition, I would much rather had us fast forward the process and put Brian Daboll in that HC role.

Ugh, I got sick and tired of the Pats' offensive coaching structure storyline, but I am starting to get legitimately worried at this point. It seems like they are trying to change too many things all at the same time. Maybe there is a grand plan that is coming together under the surface, but that have been hiding it well. I really hope they made a serious run at Bill O'Brien and he rebuffed our offers, as we could use him right now.

The defense has issues and losing JC Jackson will hurt, but I trust both Steve and Mayo and think both are above average DC types. I think we eventually lose Mayo as he deserves a bigger role.

It would be a weird dynamic, but has there every been an NFL team with co head coaches? It might take that sort of dynamic to lure an OC of a high enough caliber.

Love the Gonzalez pick, where go from here is interesting.

The defense has the potential to be really good but we could use another DL, linebacker, or safety. We have good enough players at those spots, but could use a true difference maker at all levels. It looks like there will be some available.

The offense is a different story. I think we can sit tight at the skill spots round 2, but nothing is off the table. OL is a huge need, and Hooker/Levis could also be in play.

This is probably the best about the team I've felt in a while. The defense is loaded with talent, we may not have a truly elite player but there's a lot of depth and talent with a few studs.

The main reason for optimism is that this is probably it for Mac if he has another shit year. Yes we are changing coordinators and have some decent skill guys, but I would imagine we will have some sort of clarity at the QB position after this season. I think most fans have been ready to move on, but he'll get another chance.

We added some talent to the OL, I'm still unsure about tackle but we needed to get better on the OL this offseason and it looks like we've done a good job.

All in all, we should be a better version of last years team. That is not a contender, but we have a very good defense and some promising young players. Hopefully we get an answer at QB in the near future.

With everything going on around us, I am sort of resigned to this being a stasis year. I don't think the BoB offensive fix is a one year ordeal. However I think we can make a clear delineation of whether Mac can be the guy this year.

Rodgers to the Jets might burn bright but I think it is a quick win now strategy that we might just have to weather ala Manning to the Broncos.

Plus the structure of the AFC may change quickly once all the top teams have to pay their young QB's a lot of money. Unfortunately, Mahomes and Allen to some degree exist, where they can get paid market/slightly below market and still be able to field a SB caliber team.

As I mentioned elsewhere, our schedule is brutal. And it might be to our benefit. If we need that top tier QB and Mac isn't that guy, our schedule will help us be in a position to get that guy.

Obviously the easiest path is Mac/Bob click immediately, I am just not banking on that.

Got roped into this clickbait article while doomscrolling:

https://patriotswire.usatoday.com/li...WKr6YbUKePy76I

When it had a picture of Devin White, I knew this was going to be a shit show.

Oh lets waste a third on Budda Baker so he can be a McCourty replacement? If you are offloading aging disgruntled talent, you don't get premium picks especially when they are going to want a contract the day they get into town.

The Jeudy one is fine.

But Devin White for a 1st? Roquan went to the Ravens for a 2nd in basically the same situtation

Not sure why, but you are probably right.

There is a reason that the only special teams guy that made it as a HC was Jon Harbaugh.

What I never got is why if you are giving a non offense guy a chance, why not Mayo? He is a company guy. Patricia was a disaster, and history proved that again. Judge with the Giants wasn't a dumpster fire, but it wasn't good,

Put Mayo in Patricia's shoes and things turned out the same way, I would more than happy for him to step back and shadow BoB and get a second chance.

Anthony Firkser as the third tight end/h-back is a pretty solid low risk signing. He was great in that 2019 playoff game against Tennessee that ended up being Brady's last game here.

No complaints here whatsoever here.

However if all three (Henry, Gesicki, Firkser) make the roster, then that poses new questions roster wise.

None of those guys are that classic inline blocking guy that you in will need over the course of every game.

I can see two things that could come from this from a roster building perspective:

a) Gesicki gets what he has wanted and he is just a WR inside an already muddled WR room.

b) we need a backup swing tackle to take up the jumbo TE role.
