what i enjoyed most about the show: the characterization of all of the main players - obiwan, vader, leia, even the introduction of tala and her character was great. this is one of my favourite iterations of anakin/vader ive seen, and i thought ewan was tremendous at portraying how harrowing some of these moments were for obiwan, as well as his slow return to form.

what i enjoyed least about the show: a lot of the transitions from plot point to plot point felt a bit contrived to me. the moments themselves were good, the way they moved from moment to moment was weird at times. also, i think the production was a definite step down from mandalorian, apparently they had both a lesser budget and far less post-production time for this show than they did for mandalorian, and it really showed in spots. it really felt like a disney+ show at times, which isnt a compliment.

totally in the middle on: reva. i think moses did a great job, and i love the concept of a youngling who experienced what she did working her way up to face vader. i think the way the character actually played out on screen episode to episode was very up and down though. and i still have no goddamn idea what her motivation was in the final episode for going to tatooine with intent to murder luke.

overall: solid, fun show, but with a lot of things to nitpick. id probably say its a 7/10 and know that im being generous because im a star wars nerd, but i still enjoyed it overall, even if there were plenty of issues. i think the most important part was the characterization of obiwan/vader, which I think they pulled off well.

Agreed about Tala. I really enjoy the premise of a character who joined the empire thinking it was the right thing to do, but becoming disillusioned but continuing to undermine from within. Different (not better/worse) than someone like Finn who was a part of it from birth and wanted out.

And I enjoyed the Reva plot, especially when you look at it parallel to how Obi Wan handles the downfall of the Jedi, but really makes no sense that she's still alive. Absolutely no reason that Vader or the Grand Inquisitor would let her survive.

Agree with these points. I had lots of issues with the show but I did think it all came together in that last episode and overall I think the series is fine. I no longer hate it. I still think it could have all been done much better.

I wanted to again state how great I thought the scene with Vader, Obi-Wan, and half an Anakin face was. The show was all worth it for that scene alone. Really well done.

The only part of that I disliked was that they felt the need to have Vader state "I killed Anakin" and then Obi Wan say "my friend is dead", just to tie into New Hope where Obi Wan tells Luke "Vader killed your father."

It's fine and I get that Obi Wan needed to finally let Anakin go, but the dialogue for that specifically just felt lame and forced, especially after Revenge of the Sith where they have that whole dialogue already and Obi Wan says you are already lost or whatever.

But agreed, the scene was pretty cool especially with cutting between the Vader and Anakin voices. Also great seeing how impatient/uncontrolled Vader still is at that time, where in the eps 4-6 you don't get that.

i think they had the vader intimidation/power scaling down really well, he came across as 80s mike tyson in a gym full of amateurs, which is pretty perfect. and i absolutely loved the characterization of him in this series, especially ep 5 as it related to the flashbacks showing both his strengths and weaknesses. i think like 90% of vader stuff was a+ tbh. THAT SAID, i think that BECAUSE hes presented as so unstoppably powerful, they make weird choices at the end of his confrontations because theres no legitimate reason for anyone to survive him, so he ends up doing weird things that dont necessarily fit, and require us patching up with forced-headcanon.

Just letting Obiwan walk away from the confrontation at the end of ep 3 because theres some fire in the way, and then just walking away from Reva and not making sure shes dead despite her being someone who knows his identity (which he keeps hidden and murks anyone who finds out) and just betrayed him. Both of those were contrived as fuck, purely because Obiwan/Reva needed to survive those scenes.

I think he let Obi-wan go because he was so weak that it wouldn't have fulfilled his vengeance. He both wanted him to suffer, but also wanted to prove to himself that he could kill his REAL master. He could tell he had cut off his connection to the force and that it was holding him back. You can hear the glee in his voice in the final battle when he realizes Obi-wan's strength has come back and that's when he finally goes for the kill.

As for Reva, she was always a child to both Vader and the Grand Inquisitor. She's a gutter rat who outgrew her usefulness, go back to the gutter, you aren't worth my time and effort.

I think that would make sense, but he literally sent a stormtrooper forward to collect kenobi and bring him into custody after burning him. The stormtrooper just got shot by Tala before she blew the thing up. He seemed to have zero plans of letting him go, he was gonna make him suffer as a prisoner, but Tala fucked it up for him.

Vader is the best villain in history and they did very well with him, so that alone makes the show a net positive

I'm confused how UA has a third season. I checked out after the first episode when it was released. I was completely burned out on superhero shit and had heard good things about the show, tbf. Still surprised.

It's barely super hero shit really. I mean yeah they all have super powers, but they kinda suck at using them and it's really about a fucked up family with a side of super powers.
