Sounded like your playgroup is pretty competitive. I can't do the competitive scene anymore, too much $ and time. I've always loved tokens, though, and anytime that's viable, I typically run it. Actually, Nighthawk, you playing Modern?

Ehh I dont really care for red. Kinda weird but I wanna stick with BW. BW tokens is fun as shit, but a guy at the FNM plays goblins and another plays affinity so its like I cant compete.

Our FNM does not have anyone that plays standard, so FNM is strictly modern or draft if we have enough interest.

Vampire talk makes me want to play my EDH Olivia deck. Might make that a priority when I go to bottle my home brew at my buddy's place. Ruthless Rye (Sierra Nevada) and some MTG..... yeah, need it to happen.
I am interested in the RPG action. Not sure how you're doing it but PM next time you're starting and give me details. |

Been a while since I've gotten some good EDH action in. I have been limited to 1v1 too much lately and only against the same person. Even though he and I are big brewers and always have new decks, it still gets stale as we know each other's playstyle too well. My latest deck is idea is inspired by my children. They are really into Plants vs. Zombies and I found myself wanting to brew up a Plants vs. Zombies themed Skullbriar-led deck. Trying to keep my creatures with the plants vs. zombies theme and use only plant, zombie, treefolk, elemental, etc creatures. Counter subtheme with Forgotten Ancient, Shape of the Wiitigo, Doubling Season, etc. Main wincon will be Voltron but there's enough good stuff in GB to win too another way (Tooth and Nail, Avenger of Zendikar, etc). We play D&D using roll20.net. Fenikz has kinda disappeared on us, there is talk of potentially replacing him but Cain already expressed interest and Damix is going on vacation for a while too I think so I'm not sure what our plans are atm. |

In other tabletop gaming news, I was at Toys R Us the other day and they had a super discount bin and I found Smash Up, Krosmaster: Arena, and Machi Koro in there for $5 or less so I couldn't possibly pass on them.
Krosmaster: Arena feels like LoL in a turn-based strategy/board game. I only played the full game once but it was solid enough to warrant another game or two. I'd probably give this game a 6/10. Again, something solid to have around but not something I'd actively go to. Smash Up I really enjoyed. You basically take two decks of themed cards and shuffle them together and play Minions and Actions to try and take bases. As you score the bases, you get points and first to 15 wins. The base game has Tricksters, Zombies, Dinosaurs, Ninjas, Robots, Aliens, Wizards, and Pirates. Each group has their own specialties, for example Dinosaurs have big, strong minions, Zombies interact heavily with the graveyard, wizards draw cards, ninjas kill minions, etc. As I said, I really enjoyed it, I played Zombies and Dinosaurs and that combo was pretty lethal, as I kept rezzing all the big dinosaurs. I already bought a bunch of the expansions for it to get more groups. I'm a big sucker for deckbuilding games but I'd give Smash Up a solid 9/10 right now. Maybe it'll become stale eventually as I try all the different factions but right now it's already jumped atop my "grab this game" list when having a board game night. It was also nice having a deckbuilder where you aren't entirely reliant on building the deck as you go. Sometimes you can get really hosed in other games by simply never getting powerful cards in your deck at all, while this one the factions are pretty balanced so it's nearly impossible to not have powerful cards. I'd say Smash Up is also a pretty light-hearted game overall (the dinos have lasers, the card names across the board are pretty joke-y, some of the expansion groups are Bear Cavalry, Kitties, and Geeks, based on the Geek and Sundry channel, Tabletop), this makes the game good for casual players but less fun with hardcore types. I haven't gotten to play Machi Koro yet, I'll check back in once I do. |

I'd give it a shot. Scheduling would be the obstacle, but I'm sure that's already the case. I'll PM my cell and you can text when the time comes.
I have the same issue with EDH. Haven't played in months now and will probably be 2-3 times a year when I get the itch and go for the 1v1 game b/c it is the only option. |

Yes. It. Is. And it is free and perfect, mostly. It works amazing if you just have a friend and are in the same room or google hangouts where you can talk it out. I love it and will be playing it tonight. You can build any deck with any cards every and all. If you get it I will learn EDH and build a deck too.

We can do that 100%. Just let me know because I would have to figure out EDH rules and make my own deck. I have only done standard, modern, and draft personally.

OMFG I'd be so down for virtual db MTG. I assume there's already a full MTG database to load up so all cards are available?

With everything available (and not costing a bazillion dollars to use) I'd be down for any format. I definitely like EDH for it's more casual nature. The format allows for more creativity and more random shit happening. Still, when I got back into MTG a few years ago and moved to EDH, I had built an all-black standard (vintage, I suppose) deck that I though was fun.

I checked out Cockatrice this morning/afternoon, it was a little clunky at first but it seemed alright once I got used to it. Wouldn't be opposed to using it while it's available. (My buddy that's a lot more plugged in than me says Wizards coming down hard on it is only a matter of time)

Getting the dB is the bigger deal. There will be others like it I would wager.

Well that's why I said I go against friends and use Google hangouts. Easier to tell your friend in chat what's happening rather than nothing.
