The weird part is that it was made as an HBO Max release movie. But supposedly the company wants to shift back to big theatrical release films so they just axed it all together, allegedly not because of the quality of it.

To recap the madness going on at the moment at WB/HBO/Discovery, there's a few things you should know about:

1. AT&T owns both WB, who owns HBO and HBO Max, and Discovery.

2. The pandemic hit every movie studio hard, WB even resorted to releasing everything in 2021 on the same day on their streaming platform, HBO Max. They lost an incalculable amount of money from this decision. This, among a few other things, lead to the head guy at Discovery, David Zaslav, spearheading a merger between Discovery and WB. He now has control over a ton of shit over at WB.

3. David Zaslav has no experience in the movie business. He got his start at NBC and has worked exclusively on television and streaming content his entire life, this is very important because the people and rules in both worlds are not the same. He's never developed a motion picture in his life. Nobody reporting on the chaos at the moment has brought this up but this is the biggest reason shit has hit the fan. Zaslav is like a chimp with a machine gun now that he has power at WB because he doesn't know the rules. Thus far, he has:

Shelved HBO Max+ exclusive movies like Batgirl and Scoob: Holiday Hunt, that are almost completed and already spent like 70 million in because there are tax write offs that won't make the loss bad and because "we're not going to put out a movie unless we believe in it" A rough cut of Batgirl tested in the 60s, which isn't bad but isn't great either. I don't know if there's a more recent cut available but the driving point of a test screening was asking the audience if it felt big scale enough but apparently it feels like a tv pilot and Dark Phoenix. Not the type of shit you wanna hear.

Potentially ruined WB's half century long partnership with Clint Eastwood, straight from the WSJ, maybe the most fucked up thing I can think about anybody doing:

Pulled a bunch of exclusive movies from HBO Max that don't exist anywhere else because they can get a tax write off.

Officially announced HBO Max and Discover+ will merge next summer
