It's what we've been saying for a while now. A LOT of football talent in NJ. Keeping them home is essential to success

So that means P5 champs and then the highest ranked G5 champ? Or who is the 6th spot for?

The lower divisions have even more.

Fuck it. Give me chaos. Give me upsets. The more games, the better.

Just start getting the kids a share of the profits.

I'm all for it as long as it's fair for the athletes. Adding potentially way more games though seems like a lot of injuries are bound to occur.

I like watching football, but it definitely makes it more fun when a lot of teams are involved in the post-season and there's always a chance upsets/surprises.

The supreme court rules unanimously against the NCAA. A big step toward paying players has been taken.

puke emoji.

NIL rights are one thing, but I'll never give another dollar to CU, nor watch another game, the first time it pays any players.

Yeah, it sounds like that will be the initial direction. Also gets them around Title IX since it won't be the schools paying directly (for now) but simply allowing players to earn money with their names and likenesses.

I don't know if schools will actually want to pay players if they don't have to. It means they would have to raise all sorts of new funding in order to cover the payroll, not to mention taxes. So more than likely it will just mean that donors and other sources will unofficially fund players for the schools (in addition to endorsements and the like).

It will be interesting to see if any regulations are put in place to govern it, particularly by the IRS. We all know players are given cash but now that it's supposed to be above the table the IRS can actually do something about it.

I have a hard time imagining SEC boosters (for instance, I'm sure OSU or UT or PSU or whoever would, too) would blink for a second at throwing cash at their team to pay players to ensure they get the top guys.

Again, all for NIL stuff for the players - that's like EA paying dudes to create an NCAA game, and doesn't cost other students anything. But I'm hard against anything that will end up forcing mediocre schools who already see losses from their AD having to cut other sports in order to pay shitty football/basketball players the same way they've 'had' to pay shitty coaches.

Hopefully, if it moves forward (literally paying dudes to play), it ends in a number of universities dumping their football and basketball teams entirely, or the NFL just decides to stop dicking around and creates an actual D-league for younger players.

Agreed, as it stands the NIL stuff is separate but can get murky with boosters and agents paying players for their likeness for some sort of BS advertisements and endorsements.

I think this is the beginning of the end of the NCAA as we know it tbh. I think in the near future we see either the big schools break away to form their own league and then smaller schools remain with the NCAA or like you say the pro leagues fully adopt development leagues/academies and college sports as we know them die.

this is pretty much my take.

but add in that the players should have full NIL rights to use as they wish
