Default 2021 NFL Draft Time Capsule

So we as draft nerds always like to claim when we called it. I'm no different. I made this thread so we can put it on the record and dig this up in a few years time.

Section 1: The Controversy

1. Who will have a better career? Mac Jones, Trey Lance, or Justin Fields?

2. Who will have a better career? Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith?

3. Who will have the better career? Ja'Marr Chase or Penei Sewell?

Section 2: The Best and The Worst

1. Who is the current favorite for OROY this year?

2. Who is the current favorite for DROY this year?

3. Who is the highest selected player who will not be starting by opening week 2023?

4. Who is the lowest selected player who will be a starter by opening day 2023?

Section 3: Your Dream Draft

You have pick 16 in each round you can take anyone selected after that does not have to be in the same round who do you got?

Round 1:

Round 2:

Round 3:

Round 4:

Round 5:

Round 6:

Round 7:

UDFA:

Section 4: How did your team do?

List your teams draft picks and tell me if each player will be
Out of the league, off the team, a back up, a starter, a pro bowler, an all pro.
By opening day 2023.

I have an alarm set on my google account to dredge this thread up in august 25 2023 to see how we did.

Section 1: The Controversy

1. Who will have a better career? Mac Jones, Trey Lance, or Justin Fields?
Justin Fields

2. Who will have a better career? Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith?
Devonta Smith

3. Who will have the better career? Ja'Marr Chase or Penei Sewell?
Penei Sewell (this is kind of hard to quantify though)

Section 2: The Best and The Worst

1. Who is the current favorite for OROY this year?
Trevor Lawrence

2. Who is the current favorite for DROY this year?
Jaelan Phillips

3. Who is the highest selected player who will not be starting by opening week 2023?
Mac Jones

4. Who is the lowest selected player who will be a starter by opening day 2023?
Trey Smith (assuming this doesn't include long snappers/punters)

Section 3: Your Dream Draft

You have pick 16 in each round you can take anyone selected after that does not have to be in the same round who do you got?

Round 1: Kwity Paye, DE/EDGE

Round 2: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB

Round 3: Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR

Round 4: Tommy Togiai, DT/DL

Round 5: Tommy Doyle, OT

Round 6: Trey Smith, OG

Round 7: Shaka Toney, DE

UDFA: Marvin Wilson, DT

Section 4: How did your team do?

List your teams draft picks and tell me if each player will be
Out of the league, off the team, a back up, a starter, a pro bowler, an all pro.
By opening day 2023.

Round 1, Pick 7 — OT Penei Sewell- all pro, expect him to be a top tackle in the league
Round 2, Pick 9 (41) — DT Levi Onwuzurike- starter, a solid starter type that can provide pressure from the 3-tech similar to what they do with Aaron Donald (way way lesser version of course)
Round 3, Pick 8 (72) — DT Alim McNeill- starter, a decent nose tackle in the current scheme
Round 3, Pick 38 (101) — CB Ifeatu Melifonwu- starter- either a press second corner or a safety, I expect him to stay
Round 4, Pick 7 (112) — WR Amon-Ra St. Brown- starter- at worst a slot but expect him to be fringe inside/outside for years to come
Round 4, Pick 8 (113) — LB Derrick Barnes- back up- a good special teamer and blitz package guy but not a huge starter
Round 7, Pick 30 (257) — RB Jermar Jefferson- off the team- eh maybe he catches on as a 3rd/4th back but not high expectations

Section 1: The Controversy

1. Who will have a better career? Mac Jones, Trey Lance, or Justin Fields?

Trey Lance, and I'm not sure it's close. What a great situation to be in.

2. Who will have a better career? Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith?

Devonta Smith.

3. Who will have the better career? Ja'Marr Chase or Penei Sewell?

Ja'Marr Chase, by far.

Section 2: The Best and The Worst

1. Who is the current favorite for OROY this year?

I guess I'll go Kyle Pitts. Getting to play with Matt Ryan and those other weapons will help.

2. Who is the current favorite for DROY this year?

I guess Micah Parsons? Their D is solid and he'll rack up a lot of tackles which the NFL loves.

3. Who is the highest selected player who will not be starting by opening week 2023?

Alex Leatherwood, easy.

4. Who is the lowest selected player who will be a starter by opening day 2023?

Trey Smith. He won't start in 2021 but he'll take over permanent RG duties in 2022 if he's healthy.

Section 3: Your Dream Draft

You have pick 16 in each round you can take anyone selected after that does not have to be in the same round who do you got?

Round 1: Kwity Paye

Round 2: Terrace Marshall Jr.

Round 3: Quinn Meinerz

Round 4: Zeph McPhearson

Round 5: Noah Gray

Round 6: Trey Smith

Round 7: Dax Milne

UDFA: Marvin Wilson

Section 4: How did your team do?

By opening day 2023.

Round 2, pick 58: Nick Bolton - LB - Missouri: I honestly have no idea. I figure he'll still be a starter, but a low end one.
Round 2, pick 63: Creed Humphries - C - Oklahoma: All Pro, one of the best centers in football.
Round 4, pick 144: Josh Kaindoh - DE - Florida State: backup. Nothing special.
Round 5, pick 162: Noah Gray - TE - Duke: backup, TE2.
Round 5, pick 181: Cornell Powell - WR - Clemson: Starter. Already the best WR2 on the team.
Round 6, pick 226: Trey Smith - OG - Tennessee: He has All Pro potential if his medicals check out, but I'll say starter for now.

Section 1: The Controversy

1. Who will have a better career? Mac Jones, Trey Lance, or Justin Fields?
Lance should. Fields might if the Bears figure out what offense is for the first time in franchise history. Jones' ceiling in New England is Matt Cassel (might win some games, but won't ever really e better than replacement-level). I'd go with Lance.

2. Who will have a better career? Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith?
Smith, by far. He's more than just fast and his size won't matter.

3. Who will have the better career? Ja'Marr Chase or Penei Sewell?
I don't know what this means, given the two positions. Tie.

Section 2: The Best and The Worst

1. Who is the current favorite for OROY this year?
Lawrence->Wilson->Fields->Najee. Harris will probably win it solely because he's a Steeler and talent doesn't matter in that case. Also because they'll have to give him the ball 500 times this season.

2. Who is the current favorite for DROY this year?
Parsons.

3. Who is the highest selected player who will not be starting by opening week 2023?
3 seasons out? Probably a QB. But fuck it - Jaylen Waddle. Someday, one of these dudes (Ruggs/Waddle) will surprise me, but I don't think it'll be this one. Zach Wilson is the other easy guess because the Jets are a dumpster fire.

4. Who is the lowest selected player who will be a starter by opening day 2023?
Kary Vincent, though probably not in Denver.

Section 3: Your Dream Draft

You have pick 16 in each round you can take anyone selected after that does not have to be in the same round who do you got?

I assume just in general, rather than anything about the Donkeys needs.
Round 1: Jamin Davis
Round 2: Creed Humphrey
Round 3: Tough round. Divine Deablo, Wyatt Davis, Trey Sermon, Spencer Brown. I'd flip a few coins. Would've been sad to miss on Mond at 3.
Round 4: Ian B... I mean Buddy Johnson.
Round 5: Shaun Wade
Round 6: Brady Breeze
Round 7: Dax Milne, I guess.
UDFA: Dylan Moses by a wide margin. I'd take him in round 6.

Section 4: How did your team do?
Lol.

List your teams draft picks and tell me if each player will be
Out of the league, off the team, a back up, a starter, a pro bowler, an all pro.
By opening day 2023.

Round 1: No. 9 – Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama - Starter
Round 2: No. 35 (from ATL) – Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina - Back-up
Round 3: No. 98 (from NO) – Quinn Meinerz, G, Wisconsin-Whitewater - Back-up
Round 3: No. 105 (from NO) – Baron Browning, LB, Ohio State - Off the team
Round 5: No. 152 – Caden Sterns, S, Texas - Off the team
Round 5, pick 164 (from CHI via NYG) – Jamar Johnson, S, Indiana - Off the team
Round 6, pick 219 (from ATL) – Seth Williams, WR, Auburn - out of the league
Round 7: No. 237 – Kary Vincent Jr., CB, LSU - starter
Round 7: No. 239 (from NYG) – Jonathan Cooper, DE, Ohio State - out of the league
Round 7: No. 253 (from CLE) – Marquiss Spencer, DE, Mississippi State - out of the league

Section 1: The Controversy

1. Who will have a better career? Mac Jones, Trey Lance, or Justin Fields?
Justin Fields, I'm not that high on Trey Lance, I was torn between Mac based on the situation he's landed in, and Fields who I just think is the best of the three.

2. Who will have a better career? Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith?
Jaylen Waddle, I really like both, but I think Waddle

3. Who will have the better career? Ja'Marr Chase or Penei Sewell?
As others have said, not sure how you definie this, but I'll go Sewell on the basis I think he;s going to make multiple pro bowls, not sure I can say that for Chase.

Section 2: The Best and The Worst

1. Who is the current favorite for OROY this year?
Najee Harris (just to be different)

2. Who is the current favorite for DROY this year?
The easy pick here is a linebacker racking up tackles, which makes me want to go for Jamin Davis, but I'll go homer here and select Kwity Paye after racking up good sack numbers.

3. Who is the highest selected player who will not be starting by opening week 2023?
Trey Lance

4. Who is the lowest selected player who will be a starter by opening day 2023?
Will Fries (starting RG over Glowinski)

Section 3: Your Dream Draft

You have pick 16 in each round you can take anyone selected after that does not have to be in the same round who do you got?

Round 1: Jaelan Phillips

Round 2: Sam Cosmi

Round 3: Tommy Tremble

Round 4: Jaelon Darden

Round 5: Keith Taylor

Round 6: Trey Smith

Round 7: Will Fries

UDFA: Marvin Wilson

Section 4: How did your team do? WHERE'S THE LT?!

List your teams draft picks and tell me if each player will be
Out of the league, off the team, a back up, a starter, a pro bowler, an all pro.
By opening day 2023.

Kwity Paye - Starter, could potentially be a pro bowler but I'll be conservative
Dayo Odeyingbo - Starter, see above, assuming his rehab is ok
Kylen Granson - Starter, should phase out Jack Doyle and become our move TE
Shawn Davis - Off the team
Sam Ehlinger - Off the team

Section 1: The Controversy

1. Who will have a better career? Mac Jones, Trey Lance, or Justin Fields?
Trey Lance but a lot of that has to do with the system and situation around him in San Francisco. Fields will be better than Jones. I don't believe in Jones. That fucking bum Reggie Ball could've been in the Heisman conversation with that batch of talent around him in Alabama last year. I think Belichick will work wonders with him though.

2. Who will have a better career? Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith?
DeVonta Smith. I want to believe in the first Heisman WR since Larry Fitzgerald. Jason White was an inside job and you know it.

3. Who will have the better career? Ja'Marr Chase or Penei Sewell?
Barring injury, both will be in Pro Bowl territory by the end of year two. I think they're more value to a franchise tackle than a franchise receiver but I also think the decision to reunite the chemistry between an elite college quarterback and an elite college receiver in the pros is long overdue and I think it's going to be extremely successful if the Bengals can block.

Section 2: The Best and The Worst

1. Who is the current favorite for OROY this year?
Trey Lance will have the best numbers and more wins but Trevor Lawrence will be the most impressive because he'll be doing more with less. It'll be like when RG3 beat Andrew Luck. Justin Fields will be the Russell Wilson in this scenario.

2. Who is the current favorite for DROY this year?
Jamin Davis.

3. Who is the highest selected player who will not be starting by opening week 2023?
Pick 20: Kadarius Toney, WR for the Giants

4. Who is the lowest selected player who will be a starter by opening day 2023?
Pick 254: Pressley Harvin III, P for the Steelers

Section 3: Your Dream Draft
You have pick 16 in each round you can take anyone selected after that does not have to be in the same round who do you got?

Round 1: Elijah Moore, WR, Ole Miss
Round 2: Creed Humphrey, C, Oklahoma
Round 3: Elijah Molden, S/CB, Washington
Round 4: Jaelon Darden, WR, North Texas
Round 5: Ben Mason, H-Back, Michigan
Round 6: Trey Smith, OG, Tennessee
Round 7: Pressley Harvin III, P, Georgia Tech
UDFA: Dylan Moses, LB, Alabama

Section 4: How did your team do?
List your teams draft picks and tell me if each player will be
Out of the league, off the team, a back up, a starter, a pro bowler, an all pro.
By opening day 2023.

Round 1: No. 22 – Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
Starter

Round 2: No. 53 – Dillon Radunz, OT, North Dakota State
Pro Bowler

Round 3: No. 92 (from GB) – Monty Rice, LB, Georgia
Backup

Round 3: No. 100 – Elijah Molden, CB, Washington
Snubbed Pro Bowl Nickel (You know what I mean)

Round 4: No. 109 Dez Fitzpatrick, WR, Louisville
Backup

Round 4: No. 135 (from GB) – Rashad Weaver, DE, Pittsburgh
Backup / Rotation Edge

Round 6: No. 205 – Racey McMath, WR, LSU
Backup

Round 6: No. 215 – Brady Breeze, S, Oregon
Special Teamer

I realize I expect everyone to still be on the roster but the team has so many depth issues that all these guys are gonna stick around for all four years on their contracts in likely hood. They would really have to suck to be off the team.
