I can KINDA give a pass on that considering we drafted parsons and signed Neal along with still having jaylon and LVE. just not for the guys they did roll with. Also that whole Joseph / Campbell situation is nuts. wtf

Per David Helman

Quote:
I’m not just saying it for fun: Micah Parsons seemed to have himself a day today.

Lined up all over the formation, including MIKE & DPR/SAM/whatever you want to call it.
Quote:
Parsons pick 6’ed Garrett Gilbert in 7on7 & blitzed the A gap for a sack. had a nice swim move on Pollard.
Quote:
more rookie notes. Nahshon Wright continues to flash. continues to look sticky in coverage, and he managed to pick of Garrett Gilbert.
Quote:
Rashard Robinson also made 2-3 really nice plays in coverage to prevent completions.
Quote:
play of the day goes to CeeDee Lamb.

late in the practice, Dak scrambled way to his right, all the way to the sideline and heaves it 50 yards toward Lamb, who absolutely skies over Anthony Brown & brought in the catch with both hands above his head. freaky stuff.
Quote:
brief scare for LVE. made a really nice play in 7on7, jumping a Dak pass intended for Sean McKeon and intercepting it. I think he got the wind knocked out of him going to the ground, because he was down for several minutes.

he did return to practice, though.
Quote:
Zeke Elliott was at practice today and went through the full workload.

Amari Cooper & several of the young WRs once again were held out. Randy Gregory was absent today, as were Donovan Wilson & Kelvin Joseph.

Zack Martin, Tyron Smith & La’el Collins all participated.
Quote:
random stuff:

Noah Brown & Aaron Oarker both had really nice catches at different points today. Simi Fehoko also had a nice, leaping catch on a throw from Dak, right into a hole in the zone
Quote:
looks like a Chauncey Gholston is in fact kicking inside to DT in some nickel situations
Quote:
too many missing bodies from the OL & DL to get a clear idea of much, but it did seem like Tyler Biadasz did a lot more center work today.
Quote:
Keanu Neal continues to get a lot of WILL work, and Jayron Kearse/Damontae Kazee still looks like the primary safety duo.

CeeDee Lamb did not have a traditional offseason program last year because of the pandemic, so he said he “feels like a rookie,” as he goes through his first OTAs. If so, he’s a rookie with 74 catches for 935 yards and five touchdowns under his belt. “I feel like the jump is definitely there,” Lamb said. “It's all on the future to gauge it. I am excited about the future, can't wait for the season. OTAs has a been a big plus for me.”
Big year coming for CeeDee

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said QB Dak Prescott “hasn’t missed anything that has been slated” this spring. Actually done more than planned. McCarthy anticipates Prescott participating daily in training camp.
Quote:
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said WR Michael Gallup “is taking that next step you look for in young players.” Gallup has seen more slot reps in the spring. “He loves it. He looks good at it. ...I see Michael taking a big leap this season.”
Quote:
Cowboys CB Kelvin Joseph has been in 10-day quarantine for COVID-19. Followed install periods from afar. Rookie second-round pick will return to practice today for start of minicamp, coach Mike McCarthy said.
Quote:
Cowboys LB Micah Parsons continues to dabble as rusher from right edge. Notably explosive off line of scrimmage. RT Ty Nsekhe was briefly hobbled on one such play. Parson should only play faster in coming months as he gains comfort in defense.
Quote:
It wouldn’t be fair to characterize LT Tyron Smith, RG Zack Martin and RT La’el Collins’ side-field work this spring as rehab. More of a functional strength and conditioning program. Today included stance get-off while tethered to sled. Each looks ready for training camp.
Quote:
A casual observer might assume Tony Pollard a slot wide receiver, based on how he moves in and out of breaks. Best separation from anyone during early 7-on-7 period came from Cowboys RB over middle vs. CB Deante Burton.
Quote:
Micah Parsons says DeMarcus Lawrence found out he used to play DE in high school last week, when Tank asked him "you can pass rush like that, rook?"

Since then, the mentorship is on. Parsons says there's a plan to work on pass rush moves this month before training camp.
Quote:
Micah Parsons is fun. today he read a shallow out intended for JaQuan Hardy beautifully in 7v7, nearly had an INT.

play of the day was when he SCREAMED off the edge in full team, right past Ty Nsekhe. if it had been a live rep, I think he might have killed Garrett Gilbert.
Quote:
Dak had a stretch of impressive throws in 7v7 today. in a span of 5-10 minutes, he hit big gains to Noah Brown, Dalton Schultz & CeeDee Lamb, all of them on flag routes headed toward the sideline. picture perfect examples of throwing guys open, because the coverage was good.
Notes.

Good Zeke news per DMN...

Quote:
Ezekiel Elliott wasn’t around this offseason to speak about, well the offseason.

The Cowboys running back didn’t need to speak.

The videos and his teammates spoke for him.

Videos of Elliott working out at SMU with private running backs coach Josh Hicks, dipping and dodging trash cans disguised as defenders showed he can be elusive. Elliott’s footwork through cones displayed lateral movement and that he’s still quick.

The beard and the hair, still long and thick, remains the same.

But is the game the same?

Last year, Elliott rushed for a career-low 979 yards. He averaged a career-low 65.3 yards per game and he gained just 1.9 rushing yards before contact, the lowest in three seasons. Elliott also lost a career-high five fumbles.

He battled calf and hamstring injuries, missing a game due to injury for the first time in his career. Football Outsiders, which provides advanced statistics on NFL players, measured Elliott’s DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) in 2020. The number is a value, per play over an average running back in game situations. Elliott had a -1.0%. His backup, Tony Pollard, was plus 13%. Tennessee’s Derrick Henry, who led the league in rushing with 2,027 yards, had a 15.5% and Dalvin Cook of Minnesota, second in the league in rushing with 1,557 yards, came in at 15.6%. So whether it was basic statistics or advanced, Elliott’s season was below standard.

There is now doubt about whether Elliott continues as the main running back with the Cowboys.

Talk to the people at The Star and they’ll tell you something different.

He is still someone to rely on.

“Zeke looks great,” quarterback Dak Prescott said. “He’s in the best shape of his life. Looking fast. Everybody’s seen the clips of him working out independently with his running back coach. His cuts, just how explosive he is. Excited to have a full year with him again and getting him healthy throughout the whole season.”

Last year was so different. Elliott battled nagging injuries, ran behind an offensive line that had eight different starting lineups, which included losing both tackles and a right guard.

There was Prescott himself, gone after five weeks when he suffered a season-ending ankle injury.

So much was against Elliott just to make plays. He’s never been an excuse maker, just a man that continues to ply his trade with a smile. Yet, Elliott led the Cowboys with 82 first downs gained and was fifth in the league in carries (244).

“When Zeke’s healthy and Zeke’s doing his thing, he’s the best running back in the league,” Prescott said. “It’s just exciting to see him in the best shape of his life, or best shape he’s been in the NFL. That’s going to be special for us moving forward.”

The 2021 Cowboys need Elliott. Not because Pollard isn’t capable of producing, but he’s not Zeke Elliott.

Elliott is part of an offensive attack that has weapons at wide receiver in Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb. Sometimes you can forget about Elliott and what he can provide for an offense.

It seemed offensive coordinator Kellen Moore did so on short yardage plays in 2020. Maybe the injuries that had an inferior offensive line on game days gave Moore pause on using Elliott on such plays.

If the Cowboys’ offensive personnel is healthy, especially the offensive line, then Elliott on short yardage is a no-brainer.

Elliott setting the tone for the offense, particularly on first down, is also important.

It’s unknown if Elliott knows what his numbers look like. His workouts at SMU and during offseason practices seen at The Star by the media, would suggests a determined player.

“He’s definitely been locked in,” said Pollard, who worked out with Elliott this offseason in private. “I can tell he’s took the right step forward this offseason, getting his diet right and getting in shape. Me and him, you know, we worked out a lot of times during the offseason. So, we’re both locked in this offseason getting ready.”

The Cowboys injury list grew as the 2020 season progressed. It didn’t give coach Mike McCarthy a real chance to move the franchise forward from former coach Jason Garrett.

It’s part of the business sometimes.

And when you look at the players looking for redemption in 2021, Elliott is among the players at the top of the list.

“I think it’s like all of us,” McCarthy said. “We were 6-10 last year so regardless of how we got there, it happened. The motivation is very high in our building. I think you’ve seen it from everybody involved.”
