Yeah, there's just no realistic way. Getting a good QB on a rookie deal is the best situation you can hope to find yourself in.
And like the Rams and Eagles learned the hard way, and hopefully other teams learned from their mistake, you should not extend that QB until the last possible second, even if it means playing Franchise Tag games for a year or two.

AZ should take advantage of the cap crunch most of these teams are under and sign solely released players since they don't count against you in comp selections
Reddick - 3rd Peterson - 4th Drake - 5th Players that have already been released this offseason JJ Watt Carlos Dunlap Janoris Jenkins John Brown Kyle Rudolph Duke Johnson etc https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/transactions/released/

The Chiefs are going to sign Trent Williams and Kyle Long, and then draft a C. Maybe Lando.
You heard it here first. *cries into his pillow* |

Man looking back on it, the first round of the 2013 draft was kind of a shitshow.

What would the Colts have needed to throw in on top of Nelson

I love all of the "but we're committed to Deshaun!" out of Houston now.
I hope they don't make him sit out a season in the middle of his prime, but it sort of feels like they're going to. |

Does anyone know how much of his contract would he get if he sat out the whole season or beyond? I know there are a few years left on his deal. While I love watching him play, a dispute that neither side budged on for the remainder of his contract might just be more entertaining as a non-Texan fan.

Oh, players who hold out under the newest CBA get completely fucked. Not only the fines (which teams can no longer "forgive" as they often did in the past), but I believe the contract tolls as well. Houston can say "play for us or play for no one ever while we fine you out the ass".
But...that's a horrible look for the team and it's likely, given Watson's value, that some team would eventually offer them so much that they simply can't refuse.

Hmm that's too bad. I'd love to see the train wreck, but don't want Watson to lose out on all his money.

Not the right thread, but I am a die hard Red Sox fan, and they traded away arguably their best player in the last 30-40 years because of the luxury tax. I have kinda adopted a just enjoy the players you like to watch no matter the team now. |

join me in my NFL atheism, you get all the drama and fun without ever caring if a team wins or loses. unless that team has Tom Brady, in which case they should lose every game. also, I like to root for the players I like to get paid a lot, even if they are getting overpaid because who gives a shit it's not our money.

i understand it from a fan's perspective - they want their teams to do well and make sound decisions (although eventually you'll likely have to make peace with the fact that you probably care more than your team's owner). it's fucking weird when its coming from @RotoPFFrbsDontMatterPleaseCheckOutMyContent.

The Chiefs are letting Austin Reiter hit FA too, thank god. He was trash.
Get rid of injured Fisher and Schwartz (who is retiring) and get rid of a bad center. The Chiefs got better today. |

It’s more just further proof that it made no sense for them to devote more premium picks/resources on skill guys like CEH, Hardman, and Watkins when they had not much of a plan for the OL. All while already having two elite skill guys along with a cheat code quarterback
