There's really no excuse for it but at least I can convince myself it's because Eberflus has never been a HC before and not used to being in charge of that. Rivera and McCarthy getting hit is just entertaining.

The contact rules are just a bit ridiculous to. Like a few years ago Seattle lost draft picks because a couple of players got overzealous diving for a fumble and bonked heads.

Yeah, money is whatever (I'm sure the team finds ways to make it up to the coaches) but once draft picks get involved, it would probably be better to just have no contact whatsoever. Glorified walkthroughs. No sense in risking your team's future.

Ya that's tough, especially with a team like Seattle that has found a lot of camp guys and turned them into NFL players. Like these guys are extra motivated because they know they have a real shot if they prove themselves

and then you're supposed to coach that fight out of them for a couple weeks, just not happening

There is apparently a convoluted way that, due to the new cases that got added in the last couple of weeks, the Browns could potentially void his guarantees...which is his entire contract...so it's possible they used that to twist his arm into settling and getting this over with. The current rumor is that the NFL will suspend him for a year, with the possibility it gets reduced to as few as 8 games on the inevitable appeal and/or a "good behavior" stipulation like Ben had. The Browns might want it out of the way in year one so they can actually use him ASAP.

What does good behavior constitute? He starts going to guard attended massage sessions?

Oh it was for sure bad legal advice, but if I was truly innocent I would 100% want to let it play out. I think it's pretty obvious the dude's not innocent so he should have settled early on and be done with it.

In a case like this, you'd have to settle if you can afford it. Only way it makes sense to play it out is if there is some kind of evidence that legitimately exonerates you and prove innocence which isn't going to happen in a massage situation unless there was communication from all of them colluding for a payday. Best case for Watson is to get off with a "he probably did it, they just can't prove it" judgement.

Edit: That being said, why would Watson agree to settle with any less than all of the plaintiffs? By settling, he's essentially admitting some wrong doing to the public AND still potentially has to go through the legal process for the other 4 cases. Kind of seems like the worst of both options to me.
