Everyone should carry a PW.
Unless you're meaning having a PW as your highest lofted wedge? In that case, it probably is a giveaway that you're a beginner/on your first set of clubs, but nobody should look down on you for it. Higher lofted clubs are harder to hit, and a lot of people playing them are hurting themselves.

i thought i heard some golfers on a comedy podcast make fun of golfers who carry a pitching wedge, but i might've misheard.
besides speed of play, what other petty-ish things do you judge golfers on? |

Some golfers are ridiculous and petty, but for the most part if you have decent etiquette (quiet and still when others are swinging, don't drive carts on greens/teeboxes, etc.) and are ready when it's your turn, you'll get along with like 95% of folks out there.

Yeah a PW is just part of your iron set, it’s just another club. A chipper type gimmick club will absolutely be roasted by me. But more in jest than anything. If it’s legal, you do you. Most golfers will act the same.
Etiquette is mostly pace of play, don’t spend too much time looking for a ball, take a drop wherever you last saw it go and move along. If you smoke/listen to music/whatever else while you golf it’s probably courtesy to ask your playing partners if they mind. Don’t step on someone’s putting line, don’t stand directly in front or behind them while they are putting. A big one for me that’s a bigger deal to some others is turn to play. Further out goes first, on the fairway you should abide by this mostly because you could get in the way of someone’s shot. I always emphasize to people that I play “ready” golf so, whenever you’re ready, feel free to swing/putt. |

What kind of clubs do you have?
I use TaylorMade irons, 1 hybrid wood and 2 different drivers. Older models, but I don't golf as much as I want to, so it's ok. Oh and a Scotty Cameron putter. Just bought a PGX putter, still waiting for it to come in the mail. Want to find a better driver. |

I have Titleist 718 AP3 irons. Titleist SM8 Wedges (52/58). Titleist TSi3 driver. I keep an old TaylorMade R11s 3 wood, and a 19 degree Callaway Mavrik 3H.
My gapping is pretty good right now, aside from the fact that I hit my 4 iron about 205 and my 3H about 230. I keep a Scotty Cameron Fastback 2 and I just got a Ping Tyne C center shafted putter that I love. |

Went to the PGA store today to just look around and ended up buying a preowned sim max hybrid for 130 in still really good condition. I hit it pretty well there at the store, might need to get a quick 9 hole in this week now.
I have the Ping I210 Iron Set which i love, Very old m1 taylormade driver that's why im in the market for a sim 2 max driver. titleist 3/5 wood forget which model, don't use them too much as I prefer to use my 3/4 irons most of the time. Just picked up the sim max hybrid today My putter is a Scotty Cammy newport 2

I have 10 year old Callaway Diablo Edge irons with a 4H, Rogue 3H and 3W, Nike Vapor Fly driver, Titleist SM5 wedges (52/56/60), and Scotty Cameron Teryllium Newport 2 Longneck putter.
It's a piecemeal set. It mostly works except for a 20 yard gap between my PW and 52, which screws me on a lot of par 3s. I have a Callaway Epic Max driver that I won eventually on the way but it's been back ordered since July. Eventually I'll get fitted to upgrade my irons and then most likely swap my wedges to 50/54/58 or whatever gaps best.

Yeah, it was a bucket list item for me and I wasn't going to miss it when it's just over an hour away at a course that I've played. Now I have to figure out my game plan for attending because while Whistling Straits is an awesome course, it doesn't really set up well for spectators. I'm thinking of camping out somewhere on the front nine to see everyone and then move to #17 or 18 after the last group passes to see guys finish and the trophy presentation.

Is there a good place in particular to get fitted for clubs? I am very bad, in part because I'm very bad but I think also in part because I've never had clubs designed for someone my height.

Club Champion is supposed to be good and they have quite a few locations. Otherwise, search locally at some of the golf courses as some club pros will do fittings. If you aren't very good, their eye might be better at judging what works best for you than a GG employee just looking at inconsistent launch monitor numbers.

Yeah we have something called Austad's in my town that's all I can really find around here surprisingly. Good call on just going to a course though, I'll give that a shot thanks.

Also, I haven't done one but if you're looking for something free, Titleist has a traveling event called Titleist Thursdays at some courses where you can try out their stuff. Obviously it's just a marketing thing to get you to buy Titleist and I'm not sure how much "fitting" goes on other than fitting which model of theirs works best for you but you might get lucky.

Are you looking into getting fully custom clubs, Kyle? How much are you looking to spend? Most places won’t charge you for a fitting if you buy the irons, but it might get pricey.
If you want an alternative, Sub70 does great work, my brother got fit through them and it’ll cost you a fraction of what it will with a custom fitter. If you’re still improving your game a lot, I would say that would be a better alternative. If your game improves drastically (as it tends to at the beginning), you may need to get a te fitting later. |

Yep, Sub70 will get you a fitted set for $600 or so, and it’ll be better quality than what $600 will get you anywhere else. Their CB/MB set is a tremendous deal.
