But that's what makes this all so stupid. Just because a team took a flyer on a guy who probably doesn't even make a team, what would that have changed? Have any been signed as UDFAs? That's probably more desirable than being a late 7th round pick anyway.

Deion is a moron. I don't care what he says. He only cares because it will eventually make him look good coaching. He's only about promoting himself and his brand. It doesn't make him look good and probably makes his recruiting harder.

Spoiler!

People give out way too high of grades for picks.

A+: Fields, Sewell, Slater, Phillips
A: Lawrence, Parsons, Paye, Darrisaw, Rousseau
B+: Smith, Newsome, Leatherwood
B: Wilson, Lance, Pitts, Chase, Waddle, Horn, Surtain, Collins, Stokes, Oweh
C+: AVT
C: Bateman, Tryon, Davis, Turner
D: Jones, Toney, Farley, Harris, Etienne

Leatherwood should be lower, that was a reach. He wasn't even the best tackle on the board at that point.

But yes, arbitrary subjective grades right after the draft are stupid.

The only one I ever remember see getting brought back up after was the oft-ridiculed Seahawks 2012 draft. Reach for an edge rusher, position value questionable ILB, and backup QB after having just signed a free agent in the first 3 rounds. Got like Ds.

Maybe they didn't use +/-? Otherwise not sure.

I'm surprised Wilson ended as low as he did. Guess some people are Mel Kiper butthurt that he sucks ass.

looked this up:

Bruce Irvin
Bobby Wagner
Russell Wilson
Robert Turbin

all in the first four rounds and then JR Sweezy in the 7th.

that's a helluva haul using only 10 picks

Leatherwood was a weird pick with guys like Darrisaw on the board, but getting Moehrig in the 2nd really made up for it IMO. If they had taken Moehrig at 17 and Leatherwood at 43, people probably would have said they had a great draft.

P.S. I had never even heard of their 3rd round pick Malcolm Koonce. Deablo and Gillespie were solid though.

I mean, when two players turn out to be HoFers, the draft class is going to look pretty good.

Look, I like J.R. Sweezy as much as the next guy but it may be a little bit early for that discussion.

That posted grade was specifically for Leatherwood, which was just too high.

Here's something interesting: if you were going to make your team's draft picks, not knowing when people were going to be coming off the board, who would you have chosen? Here's my Patriots redraft:

Mac Jones - Trevon Moehrig - Elijah Molden - Rashad Weaver (not knowing about his current legal incident at the time) - Deonte Brown - Ar'Darius Washington - Dylan Moses - Justin Hilliard

Rumors are that Leatherwood would have been drafted right after Darrisaw if the Raiders moved down so that’s why they stuck with him at 17. I’d grade the pick as a C+

Honestly, I wouldn’t change much about the first 3 rounds. It really feels weird saying that. Mac was my fifth QB but we desperately needed one, and not having to trade up to get him was a win considering the value was about right. The concerns are obvious, but there should be no reason he sees the field this year. Time will tell if not trading up for Fields was the right decision, but I definitely would’ve traded up to get him.

Barmore is my favorite pick. I like Moehrig’s game, but we needed a DT or edge with the ability to physically dominate and make splash plays. Barmore has some question marks, but he has the ability to be that kind of player.

Ronnie Perkins was great value. He isn’t a freak athlete but we needed another edge and he should at least be a role player. For the end of the 3rd, I’ll take it.

From round 4 on, I don’t know a ton about some of the guys we picked, but I don’t like the Stevenson pick. Seems like the skill set of a RB we could’ve found in UDFA. Would’ve really liked Tylan Wallace. There do seems to be some things to like about McGrone, Sherman, and Bledsoe. All 3 have some traits.

And Tre Nixon is a first ballot HOF’er, of course.

I probably would have gone Meinerz 3, Darden 4, Tay Gowan 5, Herbert 6

I don't really have anything against what they actually did, though.

I don't think it's a bad pick.

He is probably not a LT, which is the most premium OL position, but he can absolutely be a quality starter.

Leatherwood is a high floor with a high ceiling, idk why more people didn't like him anyways, allowed 2 sacks and had 2 penalties in 2019. Getting stronger is a must for the NFL with all OL and most of that is just putting on good fat
