Caught Oceanator opening for Jeff Rosenstock a couple months back and now they’re coming back with Pup for the Buffalo/northeast shows in the summer. Which rules. She’s good!

I saw Blue DeTiger, Parcels, Elderbrook, Leon Bridges, Whethan and Kaytranada

All of them were very good live even though I didn't know 99% of it.

Whethan kept playing Kendrick Lamar so that was one of my favorites

Tyler’s most polished album yet. Tyler has always said Al Green and Roy Ayers are some of his biggest inspirations and that really shines through on this project with gorgeous production. It’s a great balance of those more piano laced beats and some hard hitting beats that remind me of that datpiff era of mixtapes (DJ Drama “hosting” the album helps add to that early 2000s feel). It’s both braggadocios and full of self doubt, with Tyler flexing his wealth but revealing his fragile ego with continuous references to a failed relationship. Cleo Soul - Mother Spoiler! A beautiful heartfelt love letter to both her mother and to her newborn daughter. This is my go-to sunday album all year Young Dolph/Key Glock - Dumb&Dumber 2 Spoiler! Full of some of the best one liners of the year. A near perfect southern trap album. These two are both so naturally charismatic and bounce off of each other so well. A fitting farewell for a legend gone too soon. RIP Dolph IDLES - Crawler Spoiler! I first fell in love with IDLES with their album “Joy As An Act Of Resistance” which was a fantastic protest punk album. Their follow up “Ultra Mono” was extremely disappointing. For this latest effort they teamed up with producer Kenny Beats and made a fantastic genre-bending album in “Crawler”. The album explores addiction, loss, grief, and that weird in between stage of recovery where you are neither lying dead waiting for someone to save you or standing tall on your own, you are simply crawling through life. Kanye - Donda Spoiler! Regardless of what you think of Kanye the person, he is one of the most influential artists of all time. Outside of Jesus Is King he doesn’t have a bad album yet. Donda is a prime example of how he has continued to keep up with the times, and is at his best in a sort of director role brining artists together and getting the best performance out of every guest spot. There’s a lot of tracks where Kanye has the weakest verse, but again if you view him more as a director than the star of the show and just appreciate the full album as an ensemble cast then it’s one of the best of the year. Silk Sonic - Silk Sonic Spoiler! All killer no filler. 7 tracks to just groove all night long. These two have been two of my favorite solo acts and this collab did not disappoint. Isaiah Rashad - The House is Burning Spoiler! Zay has always found the perfect balance between chill & hype in all of his projects. It’s a great blend of souther trap and stoner rap, that doesn’t really lean too much into either sub-genre. It’s just wholly Isaiah Rashad. Vince Staples - Vince Staples Spoiler! Another Kenny Beats produced album. This might be my favorite Vince Staples project yet and I think that’s in large part thanks to Kenny Beats. The album is just 22 minutes long with only 1 feature allowing Vince to really show off just how good he is. Sturgill - The Ballad of Dood & Juanita Spoiler! Sturgill simply doesn’t miss. This is his 5th studio album and they’ve all been incredible and unique. His latest effort tells the tale of a man named Dood who sets out to save his kidnapped wife. It deserves to be listened to front to back as it really does tell a complete story, but if you’re only going to listen to one track this would be the one I’d recommend most. Sault - NINE Spoiler! SAULT has been one of my favorite musical discoveries over the past few years. A mysterious trio from england who beautifully blends funk, soul, pop, and jazz.
